Not SJ Suryah but Arvind Swami sir was the first choice to play DCP Dhanushkodi in ‘Maanadu’, reveals director Venkat Prabhu – Exclusive! | Tamil Movie News

Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Maanaadu‘ starring Silambarasan was finally released yesterday after facing a lot of issues and the film has been receiving great appreciation, especially for SJ Suryah’s brilliant performance. However, did you know that SJ Suryah was not the first choice to star in ‘Maanadu‘. ETimes contacted director Venkat Prabhu to know more about SJ Suryah’s character in the film and the director shared how the actor bagged the role of DCP Dhanushkodi in ‘Maanaadu’.

SJ Suryah’s character has caught the attention of the masses right after the release of the teaser but unfortunately, the actor was the first choice to play the role. “Aravind Swamy sir was the first choice for SJ Suryah’s role in ‘Maanaadu’. But he couldn’t be part of the film due to a delay in the shooting and other issues. Then I approached SJ Suryah and he really enjoyed the character after my narration. It was a happy moment for me seeing a great director praising my work, and then he came into the film,” Venkat Prabhu reveals.

On working with SJ Suryah, Venkat Prabhu shares, “Once SJ Suryah sir stepped into the role he seemed to be a perfect match for the role, and he took the film to the next level with his performance. I had written his dialogues on the spot, but once he had asked me not to change the dialogue hereafter after several changes. His character will be an enjoyable one in the film, and his frustration on the screen will make you laugh.”

Venkat Prabhu wishes to direct any genre of films that is out of his comfort zone, and his next directorial starring Ashok Selvan is almost ready for release.
